Global Learning in the Elementary Classroom
Global Learning in the Elementary Classroom is a mini-series designed to provide educators with quality resources to teach their students about world geography and cultures. With the help of some great global educators, we are featuring information, ideas, and resources to teach our youngest learners about the diverse world we all share.
Kicking off the series is an introduction to the new Globe Trottin’ Kids website, where kids and teachers can explore the world with an interactive map, country profile pages, and resource links. Then, we have an interview with the creators of Joy Sun Bear where we learn about their mission, website, upcoming book series, and educational activities for learning about the world with a kind and adventurous sun bear.
Becky Morales, the creator of Kid World Citizen, shares her favorite 4 ways for introducing global learning into a classroom. Her ideas, activities and products will help you get started on integrating global lessons immediately. Lisa Heintz from Little Songbird: Songs for Learning provides 3 methods to help teachers ensure a safe, inclusive, multicultural environment for their students. She offers many activity, book, and song suggestions, and includes a COUPON for purchasing songs on the Little Songbird website. The series will close with a round-up of global learning resources for kids.
And during all of it… A GIVEAWAY! Enter for a chance to win prizes that will help you get started on your global classroom adventure! At the bottom of each post in the series, you will find details and the Rafflecopter for entering the giveaway.
Hi! I’m Julie, the creator of Globe Trottin’ Kids. Teaching kids about the world is my passion!
I have been an elementary educator for more than 25 years. Through my own travel experiences and a multicultural family scattered across three continents, I understand the importance of children learning how we are connected globally and how we are more similar than different. My focus is to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to understand the world in which we live and about our place in it.
I created Globe Trottin’ Kids as a way to support teachers and students on their global journey. My goal is to provide quality products and resources to engage kids in learning about world geography and cultures, understanding and appreciating diversity in our world, and becoming responsible global citizens.
Our New Global Learning Website for Educators & Students
We recently completed phase one of developing a website for teachers and kids to learn about the world and find global learning products, ideas, and resources. Use our logo and the tabs across the top of the page to explore and connect.
Interactive World Map

Click on a country, and you will be taken to a profile page with an infographic, map, photographs, country symbols, and more. We currently have 20 countries on the map that align with our country research projects (below), making it a great research companion for students.
More countries, and more information for each country, are coming soon!
Products
Country Research Projects Students follow written directions guiding them through their own investigation into a country’s geography and culture. They complete a variety of activities to show what they discover, and glue them into a notebook to create a wonderful artifact to share and keep.
Activities include mapping, recording country stats, coloring the flag and researching what the colors and symbols represent, identifying currency, learning basic words and phrases in the official language, designing a menu for a day, finding popular sports, categorizing animals, decorating cutouts with traditional clothing, and discovering important people and popular celebrations.
Multicultural Literature & Activities Develop cultural awareness through diverse literature and global celebrations.
